Jonathan Cole - Saxophones

Jonathan Cole has been playing saxophone for 42 years. Originally from NYC, he studied jazz performance at City College of New York. While at City College, he studied with John Pattituchi, Mike Holober and Scott Reeves among others. Jonathan also spent time in Philadelphia playing in the nationally acclaimed jazz fusion hip-hop musical group Fathead (1995 – 2002). Fathead shared stages with artists such as Maceo Parker, The Roots, Weezer, Parliament, George Clinton, Karl Denson, Galactic, and many other internationally acclaimed touring groups. While in Philadelphia, Jonathan studied jazz theory with the late “The Maestro” Denis Sandole (1913 – 2000), who inspired the revolutionary theoretical concepts of saxophonists John Coltrane, Michael BreckerRob Brown, and Bobby Zankel; pianists Matthew Shipp and Sumi Tonooka; guitarists Jim Hall, and Pat Martino, and many other musicians such as Rufus HarleyBob deVos and Frank Gerrard.

Currently, Jonathan tours with Electrolust, a feel-good live-band-EDM hybrid exploring Funk, Latin, Cuban, Afrobeat and House. He also works or plays with many of the bands in the Asheville area including Dirty Logic, JointKiller Brass Band, Auspicious Golden Fish, and The Fritz. Jonathan also plays every Monday night in the JLloyd Mashup, a collective of some of Ashevilles best players.  If you’ve been to a Mashup Monday, then you know…

When not playing saxophone, Jonathan does photography, climbs rocks, rides a mountain bike, and eats his greens like a champ. He lives in Asheville, NC.
